A team from Environment Canada has been sent to the RM of Alonsa to survey the damage caused by Friday night's tornado.

While it will likely take some time to determine the exact path, size and wind speed of the twister, preliminary findings show the tornado was on the ground for a minimum of 20 minutes and was 800 metres wide at one point.

The tornado levelled trees and destroyed a number of structures in its path. It is also responsible for the death of a 77 year-old man.
