It is a hidden threat in winter time.

Frost nip is something just about everyone experiences during the season, according to Dr. Shelley Buchan, Medical Officer of Health for the Central RHA.

She says if you feel a numbness, or notice a slight discolouration of skin, it is a good idea to go inside. Then begin gentle warming of the affected area using warm water, but don't rub or massage it. She adds continued exposure to cold can cause frost nip to turn to frost bite.

Buchan says children are the most likely to experience frost nip or frost bite, because they're usually unaware of the symptoms.
She adds ways to prevent this are to dress in layers, get out of wet clothing, and protect yourself from the wind.
