The Manitoba government has brought forward the legislation needed to finalize the Budget 2021 process.

Finance Minister Scott Fielding made the announcement, which aims to provide financial support for the provincial government's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget also has the intention of making life more affordable for Manitobans.

"While COVID-19 continues to be the most significant challenge of our time, Budget 2021 provides important financial relief for hard-working Manitobans, while providing record investments in the services Manitobans rely and depend on," notes Fielding. "This legislation continues our efforts to protect Manitobans’ lives and livelihoods and to help position our province for recovery."

The proposed legislation, nicknamed BITSA, would reduce payroll taxes for small and medium-sized businesses, exempt personal services in retail tax, such as haircuts and spa services, make the Book Publishing Tax Credit permanent, and more.

the $248 million Education Property Tax Rebate, which was passed in May, will also be included in this budget. Fielding adds the budget supports the $2,020 Tax Rollback Guarantee, which can save the average household $275 annually.
