A popular activity offered by Central Plains Cancer Services is returning once again. The Take a Splash Aquafit Program has had to adapt to different rules throughout the pandemic because of restrictions, and for many months, wasn't able to operate at all. Registration for the free program is underway once again and CPCS Executive Director Sharilyn Knox says they're very happy about that.

"We run it out of the Shindleman Aquatic Centre on Mondays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. It is a no-charge program for cancer patients and survivors. We wanted to have something where people could make sure they were moving because we know movement is an important part of wellness and recovery. Some of the people using the program have made some great connections and friendships as well. The program has been running for a while but had to go on hiatus because of COVID. We're happy that it's back."

Sharilyn Knox of CPCSWhile the program is run out of Portage, Knox stresses it is open to the entire region. Central Plains Cancer Services coverage area goes as far west as Minnedosa, north to McCreary, east to Starbuck/Elie and south to Somerset/Swan Lake.

Knox adds their fall fundraising program starts next week and this year it will be focused on their transportation program.

"Last year, our drivers provided more than 240,000 kilometres worth of transportation to cancer patients and their families. We didn't stop for COVID because cancer doesn't stop for anything. We wanted make sure people got where they needed to be."

As far as Take A Splash, all that's needed to take part is a call to the office (204-857-6100) to give your information and register.
