Police reports were down in Portage la Prairie's RCMP district, with the decrease in Drug Enforcement calls being the most drastic.

The Manitoba RCMP released their monthly crime stat report, comparing September 2023 to September 2022. Reports in the West District, which includes Portage la Prairie, have dropped nine per cent, from 5,002 to 4,532.

Drug Enforcement calls fell 42 per cent, falling from 45 to 26. Crimes against Property reports also dropped by 28 per cent, from 961 to 694.

Common Police Activity reports had the smallest decrease, percentage-wise, dropping 14 per cent, from 724 to 623. Crimes against Person was the only major category to see an increase in reports, jumping seven per cent, from 332 to 354.

Traffic statistics show one fatal motor vehicle collision in September 2023, compared to two in September 2022. The number of serious vehicle collisions between the two months stayed the same at five.

The number of traffic enforcement tickets issued, which combines all districts, jumped four per cent, from 2,829 to 2,949.
