Red River College has two locations for students in Portage la Prairie, one located downtown and the other in Southport. RRC's Polytech delivers their Apprenticeship Aircraft Maintenance Journeyperson (AMJ) program from a secondary leased location in Southport.

Manager of Communications and Public Relations Emily Doer provided a news statement last week, explaining that RRC Polytech updated their staff and faculty about the plan to transfer the AMJ program to their Stevenson Campus in Winnipeg by the fall of 2022 when their current lease expires in Southport.

"This will enable us to locate the AMJ program alongside our other similar programming ensuring that RRC Polytech is best positioned to adjust and expand our aviation and aerospace programs as the industry evolves," says the statement. "The timing of this decision is intentional so that we can work with our teams over the coming year to ensure that the transition supports faculty, staff, students and the current delivery of the program. Bringing this program to our Stevenson Campus will harmonize the delivery of all our aviation and aerospace programs."

They explained this alignment of the delivery of these essential programs will expand student interactions, strengthen their applied learning environment, and create stronger connections between their applied research spaces while enhancing this high-quality program further.

"At the same time, RRC Polytech has continued developing and expanding programs at its Portage Regional Campus to support the immediate and emerging needs of the growing labour market," the statement continues. "That includes our Bachelor of Nursing and LPN Pathway program, a new Food Manufacturing program to support the continued expansion of the food processing industry in the Portage area. Beyond that, our Portage Regional Campus is offering new micro-credentials and Early Childhood Education programs for students from the Long Plain First Nation, in addition to many other programs offered by RRC Polytech".
