Monday's announcement the provincial government's lobbying for funding to construct outlet channels from Lake St. Martin and Lake Manitoba is good news for RM of Portage la Prairie Reeve Kam Blight.

There was a meeting with the premier in Portage, where plans were outlined to residents from Delta Beach. Blight calls it a nice gesture.

"And give an update as far as how the consultation process is going," he says, "How they hope that the actual building will take place, and the construction, and just to give an idea of timelines. And just to answer any questions in regards to the channel itself. So, I think it was great for him to come on out and allow people to hear from the premier himself, and I think it was excellent."

Blight reminded the government of other matters.

"I just wanted to make sure the province is aware that there is infrastructure that is part of this whole entire network of flood mitigation," he says, "Such as the Assiniboine River dikes, and of course, the Portage diversion. And so I want to make sure that they stay on top of things, and that anything needs to be done to the diversion is done, ahead of time."
