The Rural Municipality of Cartier had a year of accomplishing goals in 2018. Reeve Dale Fossay says the biggest highlight was helping some homeowners gain peace of mind when spring floodwaters start rising.

"It's been a long-desired project to build permanent dyking along the Assiniboine River," says Fossay. "With the support of two levels of government, the provincial and federal, we were able to protect approximately 20 homes in the Lido Plage along the Assiniboine River."

He says the other highlight of the year, while not necessarily as big and flashy, was important nonetheless.

"Early in 2018 the province indicated they were going to discontinue the water pumping program from the Assiniboine River into the Mill Creek," notes Fossay. "We have a number of vegetable producers and livestock operators along the Mill Creek. It took some arm twisting and convincing but they ran the pumps. Certainly, that water benefitted those users."

2018 was indeed a year of meeting goals in the RM of Cartier.
