Southern Manitoba was hit yet again with a snowstorm Saturday night into Sunday. With more than 10 centimeters of snow in many areas and strong winds creating drifts, several highways are still closed while others remain almost impassable.

As of 11am, the Trans Canada Highway was closed between Portage and MacGregor (now open) and East of Winnipeg, highway 59 was closed south of Winnipeg, (now open) highway 12 south of Steinbach along with portions of highway 2 (now open), 3 and 23. Many of the roads have been closed since yesterday. Last night's Portage Terrier game in Winnipeg also had to be postponed and the PCI Trojans playoff game in Winkler today has also been called off.

The hope is things will improve through the day as the wind calms down but highway crews certainly have a big job ahead of them.

There is no more snow in the forecast but extreme cold is returning to the area for the next three days.

Blizzard warnings have ended in most places and Environment Canada says that conditions should ease midday Sunday through the Red River Valley, except for near the international border, where blizzard conditions may persist into the afternoon.

As the blizzard moves out of the province a period of drier weather is expected. However, it's bringing along with it extremely cold weather yet again. "Extreme cold conditions are likely tonight across much of southern Manitoba. Wind chills will be near -40 over the north Basin of Lake Winnipeg this morning, as temperatures continue to drop."
