The Federal government is restoring a rebate on sales tax the Royal Canadian Legion pays when it buy poppies and wreaths from private sector suppliers.

Portage-Lisgar M.P. Candice Hoeppner says it's a small thing we can do to show how much we support veterans, Legions, and and those who work with both. She tells us there was strong support in the Tory caucus for this move, and believes Canadians support it as well.

Sales tax relief was eliminated for the Legion's poppies and wreaths in 1996 by the Liberal government of the day. Hoeppner says what that meant was a portion of the donations Canadians made every year on Remembrance Day did not benefit the Legion or Veterans.
