Robert ‘Bob’ Stewart Calder

Peacefully, after a life well lived, Robert “Bob” Calder passed away on December 23rd, 2022, at Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 72 years.

Predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Augusta and nephew Adam, Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pauline, sons Shane and Brett (Jayla), grandchildren Finn and Jory, brothers Cliff (Pat) and Bill (Sherri), in-laws Caroline (Russell), Don (Audrey), Audrey (Rae), Irene (Ron), Maxine (Wayne), Leonard (Bonnie), Cheryl (Jim), and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bob was born in Portage la Prairie on May 26th, 1950. He lived all his life in Portage and spent many summers playing baseball in Kinosota. It was while he was “up north” that he met the love of his life, Pauline Zdan. They were married in 1974 and raised 2 sons.

Bob was employed for over 30 years with the Department of Highways. All through his youth, Bob was very active in many sports, including baseball, hockey, and football. When his playing days were done, Bob moved on to coach his sons in both baseball and hockey, and with the Portage Terriers for many years. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, watching sports, and visiting with family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing ministicks with Finn and reading with Jory. Most of all, Bob always felt the love and support of his family and friends.

The family sincerely thanks the staff of Salem Home and Lions Prairie Manor for caring for Bob this past year.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the MNP Building, Island Park at 1:30pm, with Rev. John Dolloff officiating.

A private family interment will take place at a later date.

If friends so wish, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 1V1.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
