The Portage Saints were successful after a shootout tonight against College Jeanne Sauve winning 2-1.

Coach Joanne Clark-Gillespie says the girls are starting to see results from playing better.

"We felt we were in a good position, and when you're against the top team in the division and you're only down one-nothing, you're not getting out-played. We talked about knowing the difference of winning and not playing well and losing but playing well and knowing how that feels, and so starting since the last two games now we're back to hard work. Having to find that extra give, that little bit extra at the end of a shift because that's how we're going to be successful," says Clark-Gillespie.

Clark-Gillespie says the girls tied up the game with a power play goal by Madison Valentine and a shoot out goal by Maddie Shwaluk. She says this was the girls' second or third shoot out this season, which she says their goalie helps them to be successful.

"We have a lot of confidence in Morgan. She's a grade 12 vet and I've never seen her play better than she has this year. Her lateral movement is so, so improved from previous years. And she's not guessing, she's calm, she's moving when she has to. She was a big difference maker in that whole game actually," Clark-Gillespie says.

The Saints' next game is after the Christmas break on January 9th in Winnipeg against Sturgeon Heights.
