Portage RCMP was called to assist a senior citizen in the city who was threatened by youth for his wallet.

"Shortly after 6 a.m. on April 25, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call of an attempted robbery in a parking lot on 21st Street NW in Portage la Prairie," says Media Liaison Officer Constable Larry Neufeld. "A male victim in his 70s was approached by four individuals holding an edged weapon demanding him to give them his wallet."

Neufeld says the man was able to enter into his car for safety but received minor injuries as he did.

"The suspects are believed to be Indigenous in their late teens or early twenties with one of the individuals being a female," continues Neufeld. "They were last seen running north on 21st Street NW."

The RCMP are still investigating and would like the public to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445 with any information that could lend assistance in this investigation.
