Ensuring nobody misses out on fun and activity is the goal of the Special Olympics Manitoba Active Start Team in Portage la Prairie. Coach Deanna Talbot says Active Start is starting up again for 2018.

"This will be our second year for the Special Olympics Active Start program," explains Talbot. "It's for kids ages two through eight with an intellectual disability. And it's a way to bring kids and their families together. We play activities, it's once a week, and it's starting next Tuesday. It'll run for 12 weeks from 5:15 p.m. until 6:00 at Trinity United Church."

She notes the kind of activities they delve into are fundamentals, including throwing and kicking the ball, and then on into group activities. Talbot says they're learning as they go along, and having fun with the children. She adds it's a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to network.

Talbot says if you know of anyone who'd be interested in getting involved you can give her a call at (204) 870-0613.
