One man wanted by Portage la Prairie RCMP in relation to a recent armed home invasion was arrested and faces charges, while three suspects are still at large.

The RCMP says in a release 41-year-old Edward Thomas Houle was brought into police custody on charges of assault causing bodily harm, breaking and entering to a residence, and using a firearm in the commission of an offence July 26, after a member of the public recognized the suspect at a restaurant. Police say Houle was held in custody until such time he could be brought before the court.

Houle was one of four suspects police issued arrest warrants for after a July 22 armed home invasion in Dakota Tipi First Nation. The assailants attacked and threatened a victim at a Spirit Road home then fled the area in a dark coloured pick-up truck. The vehicle was later located at Long Plain First Nation where Louis Russell Merrick, 22, was arrested by police.

Mounties say three suspects remain at large on warrants for arrest: Michele Lee Soldier, 34, of Dakota Tipi First Nation, Jake Isaia Merrick, 19, of Long Plain First Nation, and 21-year-old Jayden Meeches of Long Plain First Nation.

"We still believe that they are within the Portage la Prairie area, Dakota Tipi First Nation or Long Plain First Nation might also be residences," says RCMP Const. Sean O'Keefe.

As a firearm and noxious spray were used in the commission of this offence, all of these people should be considered dangerous. Please do not approach them if you see them in public.
