The municipality of North Norfolk continues to work together as a new council to strengthen their team.

Ed Heppner was elected as the head of council back in October, and although this is his first foray into the political realm, he believes his experience is helping him out.

"I've never been involved in politics, but I love organizing and taking the business experience and my community experience," says Heppner. "I believe, with the success we've had in those areas, bringing those principles to council, we can be an effective municipality and grow and dream big and get things done."

Heppner started Ed's Superstore back in 1980 which ran until 1996. He founded Firm Foundations, a Screw Pile dealership, back in 2010. He also has been involved with the Austin Chamber of Commerce since the early 1980s.

He says the major focus of his group in 2023 is to learn from each other. Scott Early, Ian Blyth, Karl Voesenek, Ed Sattler, Chris Leckie, and Sadie Tait are the other councillors who make up the team.

"Even though we're dealing with many small issues, learning to work effectively together, building that team first is one of the priorities that I've had," says Heppner. "Specifically? One of the things was working on drainage plans to help prevent some future flooding, by diverting water, and working on that for MacGregor and Austin, through the operations manager."

The municipality's next meeting will be Wednesday, March 8th. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month.
