For the third Wednesday in a row the Steinbach Pistons beat the Portage Terriers in MJHL action. Defensive lapses in the second period and not enough chances lead to the Terriers 5-1 loss on the road.

It was a solid start for Portage who got their fair share of chances. Jacob Brown opened the scoring in the last minute of the first period. Reece Henry hit him with a pass from the corner and he was able to lift it up and over Matthew Radomsky. The goal woke up the Pistons and they responded 19 seconds later. Brady Tatro banged home his own rebound off the rush.

The second period started with a spirited tilt between Marcel Berube and Braden Billaney. The Pistons broke the deadlock halfway through the frame. Boedey Vaeth collected a loose puck in front of the net and beat Nathan Moore. The goal sparked life into the Pistons lineup. Less than a minute later Tanner Mole’s screened point shot found its way through traffic. Brendan Martin added another for the Pistons 2:22 later off the skate of a Terrier defenseman.

Great defence by Steinbach kept the Terriers to the outside and prevented them from getting any real sustained pressure. Mole would score his second of the night late in the third period on the power play to put the game out of reach. Nathan Moore made 38 saves in the loss.

Portage has only four losses this season and three of them have been to Steinbach. They will meet for the fourth time this year Saturday night at Stride Place. It will be a special game in support of Central Plains Cancer Services.
