The Portage Terriers have lost home ice advantage in their quest for the ANAVET Cup.

The Terriers gave up three unanswered goals -- including one in the final minute -- and they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Battlefords North Stars.

Jared Roy had both goals for the Terriers and said they started the game strong.

Jared Roy (#14) had two goals."Yeah, I don't know. Can't even tell you what happened," says Roy. "It just kind of went their way. We kind of just shut down, we just gotta keep playing hard the whole sixty minutes and then we should be definitely okay."

Looking ahead to game two Saturday night, Roy says he knows what they have to do -- and it all comes down to pressure.

"Obviously, we need a really good start to get us back into the game, and then we just gotta keep on their defencemen," says Roy. "All game, all game."

Game two goes at Stride Place Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. We will have the live broadcast on CFRY, PortageOnline, and the Portage Live app beginning with the pre-game show at 7:20 p.m.

Looking back at game one:

About six minutes into the game, Jared Roy received a pass from Reilly Funk and put the puck high glove-side to make it 1-0 Portage.

With eleven minutes left, Jay Buchholz would get hit in the head, and Owen Lamb would take a penalty, along with a 10 minute misconduct. With five minutes left, Owen Murray would get crushed with a shot to the head, and Regan Doig would get a penalty and a 10 minute misconduct. Murray would be fine, Buchholz would leave the game. Buchholz returned in the second period.

Roy would get his second of the game with about 90 seconds left. He got the puck from Brakel and beat the goalie just under the blocker to make it 2-0.

Early in the second, the North Stars would get a weird one. Nathan Moore would make the initial stop, but the puck wouldn't get covered up or cleared out of the zone. Instead, the North Stars would chip the puck in and cut the lead to one.

With the period almost over, the Terriers would get two great chances. Murray made a great individual play to get a scoring chance, but he hit the crossbar. Finally, Reece Henry would get a great point-blank shot in front of the net, but he couldn't beat the goalie.

Henry would get called for slashing shortly into the third, and after the Terriers killed the penalty, he would find himself on a breakaway. This looked similar to his play in game seven of the MJHL final (which he scored, with a nice backhand move), except this time he went forehand. He would not beat the goalie.

A few minutes later, Barnstable attempted to send Scott Mickoski in on a breakaway. Mickoski is called offside, and still takes the shot, and is called for an unsportsmanlike penalty. He argued he was in the middle of a shooting motion, and Head Coach Blake Spiller wanted to talk to the referees. Neither would be allowed to plead their case, and the North Stars would make them pay, scoring a goal by firing the puck at Moore's blocker side, and the game is tied.

With 51.9 seconds left, the North Stars would silence the crowd. The Terriers had the momentum, and were getting plenty of chances, but it would be a quick 3-on-2 by the North Stars that would end the game.

They now lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.
