It’s back to action tonight for Portage Terriers in the MJHL.

The Dogs travel to Selkirk, with memories of the last time the clubs met. They played two games at Stride Place, winning one, and losing one.

Assistant coach Paul Harland says the team’s approaching this encounter with what happened before, top of mind.

“We know that if we give them a lot of room, and aren’t closing in and finishing checks, they skate real well, and they make plays,” he says, “So we’re going to have to make sure that we’re good defensively, and we’re putting pressure on their defense, and trying to control the game in their end.”

With the Terriers holding a 1 point lead over Swan Valley for first place in the standings, Harland feels the team’s aware they’re a target for the rest of the league. He adds they’re gaining confidence.

“We’re starting to do things that we’ve been working on in practice,” he says, “And our defensive zone coverage is getting better, and our forecheck’s been good, so we just want to continue with those, and come to the rink in practice, and in games, working hard and hopefully things will continue to go the way they have here for the first part of the season.”

The game starts at 7:30, and you’ll hear it on CFRY, portageonline.com, and on the Portagelive app. The pre-game show’s at 7:20.
