The Portage Terriers are looking to redeem themselves tonight after a tough loss in their season opener. They will be on the road, battling the Virden Oil Capitals who defeated the Dogs’ on Friday.

This will be the second of four straight meetings between these two clubs in the regular season. Portage captain Reece Henry talks about what it’s like knowing you’ll have to face a team in four consecutive games.

“Obviously, it’s a little bit different playing them that many times in a row,” says Henry. “I think we’ll get to know them pretty well but I think we’ll make some adjustments and be good to go.”

The Terriers did find the back of the net twice in the season opener with goals coming from two new members of the club in Kian Calder and Tyson McLean. Ryan Hofer also had assists on both goals and starting goaltender Cole Johnston had an impressive showing, despite the loss, as he made 41 saves.

Virden managed to out-shoot the Terriers 19-6 in the second period (the other two periods were even in the shots column) which was a big factor in the last game. In the first, the Terriers and Oil Capitals both had one goal and the third period was the same, however, Virden put up two more in that second period and it led them to the victory.

Forward Tyson McLean describes what they’ll need to do differently tonight.

“I think we just need to do the little things better,” explains McLean. “I think we need to be better in our D (defensive)-zone but that’ll come. We’ll work on it in practice and get it done.”

The Terriers will look to even this regular-season series up at one game apiece tonight before coming back to Stride Place next weekend. Puck drop for tonight’s matchup is set for 7:00.
