Yesterday was a beautiful day to put up the teepee at the Fort la Reine Museum in Portage la Prairie.

That's from Portage Friendship Centre Executive Director Shirley Bernard.

The museum and the friendship centre have been partnering for a number of years now to put up the teepee on the museum grounds. Bernard shares its importance.

"The teepee is very important because it's a part of our heritage," explains Bernard. "The women are the backbone and the teepee is the backbone of the home so it's very important to us."

Bernard says they had a large crew of youth and elders alike helping to install the teepee.
