Tim Hortons is looking to bring joy into your life with the recent announcement that Smile-Cookie week is back.

The week kicks off on September 13 across the nation, and each local Tim Hortons selects a regional charity to support. In Portage, the donations will go to the Portage la Prairie's Parks Committee which treasurer Rachel Templeton is excited to be a part of.

"With the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie fundraiser, 100 per cent of the proceeds go to the recipient. The Parks Committee is working on their next project, which is going to be a new skate park."

The Smile Cookie campaign is celebrating its 25th anniversary and has raised more than $60 million for charities, hospitals and community programs across the country. Last year, it was announced by the parks committee, after the bulk of the work on the interactive fountain was completed, they had plans to start the fundraising for a new skate park. Templeton says it's great to see businesses aid the community.

"With all the help and support from Tim Hortons, it makes it easier for us, so we don't have to go knocking on each door to raise money," she says. "Our next plan is to develop a state-of-the-art skate park, that will be right next to the interactive water feature."

Smile Cookie week wraps up on September 19. This year, more than 600 charitable organizations in communities across Canada will directly benefit from Smile Cookie sales. Templeton issues a challenge to the not-for-profits and business communities of Portage.

"It's to see who can buy the most cookies for their company, and see who can raise the most money for the parks committee for our new skate park," says Templeton. "You could get order forms from the Portage la Prairie Parks Committee Facebook (page)."
