The Portage Collegiate Trojans are now tied for the most wins in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League.

The Trojans improved to 9-1 last night after taking down the Carman Cougars by a score of 9-1. Centreman Rowan Peters dished out three assists in the contest. He describes the keys to victory.

"The forecheck. Dumping pucks behind the net really does it because it tires out the other team's defence," Peters explains. "We're good at forechecking, and we need to do it."

Maddox Shindle led the way in this contest, picking up a goal and three assists, while Brandon Patterson, JJ Oke, Alex Van Deynze, and Kade Marynuik all ended the game with three points.

PCI has five more games ahead of their break for the holidays. Peters believes they can keep their winning streak rolling into the new year.

"I'm pretty confident in the team, and I think the rest of the team is too. We just have to keep trying, and even in these big wins, we have to keep a level head."

After tonight's win, the Trojans now have four of the top five scores in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League, with Alex van Deynze at 27, JJ Oke at 26, Cam Sarna at 21, and Logan Budz at 18.

With all the early success, the Trojans have championship aspirations once again.

"We have to upkeep the legacy. I think it motivates a lot of the guys to push a little harder than they normally would."

The defending champions will be back in action on Saturday as they welcome the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks to town.
