It was a near miss for Portage

The RCMP received a report of a tornado touching down a few kilometres north of the city, along Highway 240.

It passed through around 4:30, knocking down trees and power lines. Fortunately, no one was injured and no buildings were seriously damaged.

Doug Vanstone lives in the area. He wasn't directly in the twister's path, but thinks he was close. Vanstone quickly took cover, and admits it was scary. He thinks areas to the east and south were harder hit, adding several acres of land are in bad shape.
