While rain made for a difficult day in several Canada Games events yesterday, Manitoba swimmers found more success in the water racing to another two medals at Pan Am Pool. Oksana Chaput and Sam Currie, who each earned gold medals on Tuesday, respectively earned silver and bronze in the pool yesterday. Following a rain delay on the links, Manitoba golfer Ryan McMillan posted another impressive score to maintain second place in the individual standings. On the volleyball court, Manitoba’s female team finished first in their group and advanced to semifinals tomorrow.

One day after earning gold in the 100-metre freestyle, Manitoba’s Oksana Chaput raced to a silver medal in the 50-metre butterfly final. Sam Currie then became Manitoba’s second multi-medalist in the pool by collecting bronze in the Special Olympics 100-metre backstroke final.

Rain caused events in canoe kayak and tennis to be postponed a full day, while it delayed golf only a few hours at Southwood Golf & Country Club. After finally hitting the links, Manitoba’s Ryan McMillan recorded a one-over par 72 and trails only Quebec’s Chris Vandette through two rounds.

Both Team Manitoba volleyball squads split their two games yesterday, however the female team completed qualification on top of their group with a 4-1 record. Their current standing advances them to the semifinal, which begins tomorrow. The male team finished at 3-2 and will play a quarterfinal matchup today.

Manitoba’s male soccer team put up a valiant effort against Team Quebec in the battle for first in Group A, however a 0-0 draw played in Quebec’s favour and sends Manitoba to a playoff game versus New Brunswick today.

Despite the rainy conditions, the female cycling road race persisted yesterday and one Manitoban finished fifth in the field of 26. The male road race runs today at Birds Hill Park.

Canoe kayak and tennis competitions resume after the one-day rain delay. The male soccer and male volleyball teams compete in playoff round games, while the female softball team continues qualification round play with a pair of games.
