The Manitoba High School Athletic Association's Junior Varsity Girls' 'AA' Provincial Championship is set to take place this weekend at Warren Collegiate.

The eight best teams from the AA level in Manitoba will be facing off this weekend to crown a provincial champion. Warren Wildcats head coach Tyler Oliver says they moved the dates to Saturday/Sunday instead of Friday/Saturday to allow for more room in the school. He describes what the schedule will look like.

"Round-robin play is on Saturday, and the playoffs will extend through Sunday," says Oliver. "I think the final is set for around 7:30 or 8:00 on Sunday evening."

Oliver says the school is actually co-hosting the event with Mikisew high school in Cross Lake. He says the COVID-19 situation in that area caused the MHSAA to move the event and Oliver notes they were happy to be the backup plan.

The Warren Wildcats JV girls' squad won the Zone 5 Championship and placed fourth at the A/AA tournament last week in Killarney. Oliver describes his goals for their team this weekend.

"I think our goal will be to try our best to win the tournament. I think we've got a team that's capable of doing that," Oliver explains. "We will have to face a lot of tough competition, that's for sure. The AA competition is always strong straight across. Any team, at any point in time, could beat anyone. It's a very close pool this year. It's exciting, there will be some really good volleyball here."

Oliver says Major Pratt School, Elton Colligate, and Landmark Collegiate are all expected to be top competitors and give them a fun contest, should they play one another. The games begin on Saturday morning with consistent action being seen through to Sunday.
