It's time to find out which roads grind your gears.

CAA Manitoba has launched the 10th edition of its Worst Roads campaign, where Manitobans get a chance to vote for the road they think is the worst in the province.

Taylor Avenue in Winnipeg was named the worst road in the province in 2021, while Winnipeg's Empress Street won in both 2019 and 2018. (There was no 2020 vote.) Provincial Trunk Highway 34 near Austin has finished in the top five two years running.

Some of the reasons you could vote for a road include poor road signs and markings, traffic congestion, unpaved roads, and of course, potholes. This campaign isn't just for drivers. If there is a road that is difficult for cyclists or pedestrians, CAA says they want to hear from you.

"It's really important because those votes, that we share with government, it helps us build the case to say, people really do care about the state of our transportation infrastructure. It's not only important to our economy, we're a trading province. We're a transportation hub, a logistics hub," says Heather Mack, manager of government and community relations for CAA Manitoba. "We need to be able to demonstrate that our own infrastructure is in good shape."

Many people have already cast their ballots, as there are many roads across the Central Plains that need to be fixed.

"I want to roast Provincial Road 350, south of MacGregor," says the listener. "The potholes, the graters, the drifts... in every season, it's the worst road ever! I'm sure there are lots of people who can corroborate the same thing."

Another listener submitted Highway 242 saying that the road is rarely cleared of snow, and that goes for the many roads that branch off of it.

"The more votes we get, the more we can also drill down and produce regional lists. If we have enough votes, we could produce a Winnipeg list versus a Northern list versus a Central Plains list," says Mack, "The more the merrier. We hope we get a lot of votes from Portagers here."
