Manitoba Agriculture has announced they will be delaying the deadline for those looking to apply for the Drought Assistance Program.

Forage and livestock specialist Shawn Cabak says the month-long extension will give farmers a bit more time to put themselves in the best situation to offset the terrible year in agriculture that was 2021.

"Producers can now make purchases up until the middle of April and submit their application by May 13th," notes Cabak.

He says the Herd Management Program deadlines will stay the same, which is marked for April 15. He says the extension was made out of necessity, seeing how 2022 has gone so far.

The Feed Assistance Program and Feed Transportation program deadlines were pushed back one month, Cabak notes.

"Winter is looking like it's going to be longer than it has been in a few years," says Cabak. "It just gives producers a couple more options."
