The annual Arron's 'Chance 2 Play' Charity Golf Tournament was held today at the Portage Golf Club. The event was started and is still hosted by former NHL player and Portager Arron Asham. Asham spoke about what the Chance 2 Play program is all about.

"Giving kids an opportunity to play hockey, hockey has given me so much over the years," says Asham. "It's nice to come back here and try to raise some money for some kids to get on the ice and be a part of a team and the comaraderie that comes along with it."

He notes while he isn't the first player to give back to his community, he still loves that Portage always comes out to support the cause.

"I think it's very important, there's a lot of guys in my situation that do the same thing, come home and start a golf tournament for a good cause," notes Asham. "That's what we're all here for, to raise money. All these golfers aren't here for me they're here for the foundation and what it brings and what it means. I can't say thank you enough to the community of Portage. They help raise a lot of money for a really good cause."

The tournament is in its' 14th year and Asham says they are already planning for the event's anniversary next summer.

"We're definitely in talks to do something very special for next year so we're looking forward to it," says Asham. "I want to thank everyone for supporting this great cause. All of the businesses around town always step up so I just want to thank everyone."

The Chance 2 Play program is one that supports kids whose families cannot financially afford to put their children in hockey. All proceeds from the tournament go directly to the program.
