A fund in honour of one of the staples of the Portage Terriers organization is now up and running with the Community Foundation of Portage & District.

The organization put a memorial fund together for Geno Romanow, long-time equipment manager for the Portage Terriers. This idea came from Romanow's daughter Lisa. She talks more about the fund.

"I wanted to make sure his legacy and his name would continue on," says Lisa. "Any funds that are donated to the Geno Romanow legacy fund will go toward equipment and dressing room upgrades for the Portage Terriers."

Lisa says as soon as she brought the idea to CFPD executive director Mandy Dubois, she was on board and wanted to make it happen. Lisa adds this is something she wanted to get going for the last few months but wasn't sure how to go about it. She notes she's very happy with how quickly things came to fruition.

She says this fund is very special to her.

"It was really important to me. Unfortunately, my father was never able to have grandchildren from his kids so to me this was about continuing his name," Lisa explains. "It was about continuing the legacy that he left during his time with the Terriers."

The fund has already received a large donation from Portage Terriers Alumni who raised $4,500 from their jersey auction and donated it all back to Geno and the organization. To donate contact the CFPD or click here for more information.
