The Portage Islanders were in action at Stride Place in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League. They were up against a Carman Beavers squad that is one of the best in the league, having only two regulation losses thus far in the season.

Both teams came out with urgency. The Beavers were shorthanded player wise so they were looking to net a few points before fatigue set in. They got their wish as less than a minute in, Leo Lotscher fired one past Isles netminder Riley Sveistrup. After that, it was all Portage. They got four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead into the dressing room after one as fatigue looked to be kicking in already for Carman.

The second frame was more of the same with Portage piling on the goals to increase their lead. A pair from the Islanders' Matt Bayduza highlighted the second while Derek Brooks also potted a pair in the second. Robby Moar

The third period was even more of the same type of hockey. Jon Gaudet had a pair while Zack Waldvogel added another. Riley Hay had a pair for Portage in the period and Derrick Brooks scored his second of the game. For Carman, Jake Dudar notched a hat trick in the period and Jason Rose put one past Sveistrup. When the dust finally settled after 60 minutes it was a 15-6 final for the Islanders.

Portage's Robby Moar says although they got the win, they left their netminder hanging at times.

"At the end of the day you can't really complain about the win," says Moar. "We did get our goals but we left our goalie out to dry quite a bit. I thought Riley played great in net and hopefully, we can be better for him next time."

The win further solidifies the Islanders at the top of the standings. Portage has not lost a game in regulation yet this season. The next action for the Isles comes on Dec. 12 when they are on the road facing the Notre Dame Hawks. Puck drop is set for 8:30 pm.
