The Canad Inns Mixed Doubles Classic at the Portage la Prairie Curling Club ended with a showdown between Olympic champions, and two up and comers.

Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris defeated Kadriana Sahaiduk and Colton Lott 9-4 this afternoon to claim the title.

Morris says acknowledges they got a couple of breaks that helped them to win.

"And I found that game was definitely one our real solid team games," he says, "Both Kaitlyn and I were feeling great and just got a couple of breaks here and there, and that was the difference. We've been feeling good, that (Canad Inns Classic) was the first time we've been on the ice since the Olympics."

Morris and Lawes won the Olympic trials here in January, and he says there are good vibes in Portage.

"This is good curling country, coming here," he says, "It's always a treat for us. It's kind of a changing of the guard because these young guys are really up and coming, and they've really taken on this mixed doubles game. And I think it's really big for the sport to have good young teams like you saw in the semis and the finals here this weekend."

Sahiaduk and Lott got to the final via the C event, and Sahaiduk talks about that journey.

"I think that was our main goal, we wanted to at least to qualify," she says, "We're pretty happy with that, and we had a pretty good run through the playoffs, which led us here, and we can't be sad with the outcome we got. I think we're pretty happy about it."

Lott agrees and says qualifying changed everything.

"Once we qualified, it was like that monkey on the back, kind of thing," he says, "And we had nothing to lose, and we really came to play. The last game was tough, but that's the way it goes. We can go toe to toe with all the big teams, and none of them scare us."
