Portage la Prairie's Logan Rands was selected 8th overall by the Virden Oil Caps in the 2016 MJHL Draft.

Rands spent his 2015-16 season with the Bantam Central Plains Capitals. He says it was pretty special listening to the draft with family when he was selected.

"It felt amazing. It's what you always dream about as a kid, and to have it happen is just amazing."

The 5'6 defenseman isn't know for his size, but more for his controlled aggression in the corners and ability to move the puck. Rands describes his style of play.

"I'd say I'm a stay at home defenseman, but when I have an opportunity to jump in the play, I definitely jump in. If I see an open pass, I'll definitely hand it off."

Rands finished last season with 8 goals and 23 assists, and only 24 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Central Plains Capitals' Bantam club. He knows it's a long road to Virden though.

"I'm definitely going to have to put in a lot of effort on and off the ice over the years if I want to make that team."

Rands doesn't spend all his off season focusing on hockey. He also likes to play baseball and golf.
