The Portage Fusion were on the wrong side of the scoresheet Friday. They fell 8-1 to North Winnipeg United in a Manitoba Major Soccer League Division 5 match at Rotary Republic Park.

The Fusion struggled to contain their physical opponent. They didn't seem to get calls at the right time or any at all on blatant trips and shoves. Luke Voth scored the only goal for Portage in the loss.

They resume their season Tuesday against Red Devils United.

Cobras Look To Remain Unbeaten

The Portage Cobras are on the road Saturday afternoon in the MMSL. They're taking on Landmark FC in a Division 6 matchup.

The Cobras are the lone undefeated team remaining after their match against first place Saint James was cancelled last week.

"The ref actually didn't show up for that game," explains Cobras' Layne Coltart. "We just played one-half and went home. It went pretty well even though we were taking it easy like a practice but our ball control was really good."

Landmark FC is still searching for their first win of the year, and Coltart says they don't expect to hand it to them today.

"We have come together as a team really well," admits Coltart. "...and if we can keep with our game we'll stay in the win column, and keep going as undefeated. (Landmark) will be desperate, but we will just play our game, and hopefully, keep them from their first win."

That game gets going at 1 p.m.
