It was an unfortunate end to a strong playoff run for the Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Trojans last night. They fell 76-61 to the Elmwood Giants to finish fourth in the West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Tier 2 playoffs.

The Trojans were down by five at the half and could never really seem to make up the ground. PCI seemed to be a little sluggish throughout the game, and their passes weren't as crisp as they looked Tuesday night.

"The guys played the hardest game they ever did Tuesday night, and were banged and beat up already," says head coach Janey Bradford.

"The battle was there, the fight was there, and I'm not discrediting they boys' effort or the way that they played. They played hard and just couldn't get any momentum the whole game. We'd get a little bit going and then the Giants would come right back. I'm still proud even though the score wasn't the best, it was a good game."

The Trojans will lose six players to graduation. Bryce Rose, Brandon Friesen, Tyler Martens, Bailey Mcleod, Gage Foster, and Alex Amend.

"We started slow and just couldn't get back into it in the end," says Amend. "We worked really hard this season, and there were some ups and downs this season. It was a pretty good final season overall."

JV Saints In Final

PCI's junior varsity Saints are in the WWAC Tier 2 Championship Final Friday. The Saints and Kelvin will face-off for the third time this season with the banner on the line. Each team has won once, with both games being decided by less than two points.

Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in Winnipeg.
