Last night saw the annual coffee party in support of the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba at the Portage Regional Library.

Lori MackedenskiLibrary program coordinator Lori Mackedenski says they usually hold this event in the afternoon but decided to switch things up a bit this year.

"I said 'hey I think it's time to switch things up a bit and we'll have an evening event and that'll give us the chance to have some local performers'".

Mackedenski says she's hoping to hold future Alzheimer's Society coffee parties in the evening.

"I'm hoping that this is kind of [going to] get our feet wet and see how things go. And hopefully we'll get the word out and we might have a few more people come out. Maybe some more performers or more people to come and listen."

Gareth RiceGareth Rice played the piano at the event and says he enjoys the opportunity to play at events like these. Other musicians included Suzanne Bird who sang a couple of original songs, Victor Matias, and Tom and Terry, also known as Jake and Teal.

Even if you weren't able to make it out to the coffee house at the library you can still make a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba by visiting their website and clicking on the coffee party link.
