A new grain elevator in the Portage la Prairie area held a grand opening today. G3 Canada Limited, formerly the CWB, held the event for their Bloom Elevator near the Bloom area.

G3 Canada Limited CEO Karl Gerrand says it's start to some hopeful changes.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was performed as a truck

"It's the start of what's going to be an infrastructure build out plan that's going to change the industry we think. This facility in Bloom is one of the most modern, and state of the art facilities in Western Canada. It's one of the most efficient facilities in Canada with the loop track design we have here, and we thing the staff here are ready to work hard and earn the business of the local farmers."

Gerrand says it's a big day for the company, and the industry.

The people taking in the event

"It's very exciting. This is an area that I spent a lot of time -- I spent 30 years in Portage -- it's not lost on me the vast agricultural diversity in this area. I grew up on a farm, so I recognize how hard farmers work to make a living and it's just nice to be part of this. To bring back some investment into the Portage Area is very exciting for myself, but also G3."

The Bloom Elevator is located just west of Portage in the Bloom area.
