If you've driven to Delta Beach in the last few weeks, you've seen a lot of construction at the campground site devastated by the 2011 flood.

At this week's RM of Portage la Prairie Council meeting, just under $212,000 in extra funding for the work was approved. Deputy-Reeve Roy Tufford says they knew the re-development would cost the RM some money.

"There was DFA money available, so they allowed us X-number of dollars to do some work, but we want to develop a good campground. We have some funds set aside to do that, so this latest motion, at this meeting, is to do that portion that isn't going to be covered by Disaster financial Assistance."

Tufford points out the campground won't open this year.

"But by the spring of 2018, somewhere in that May to June area, we'll probably be opening the campground. So, there'll be a brand new washroom, there'll be a new picnic shelter, there'll be a new playground structure."

Tufford's excited at the prospect of the campground re-opening.

"It took a long time, and we had to have some kind of assurance that it wasn't going to get destroyed again, so we were a little hesitant to get going immediately, but once we got a design, and now we've got it in place, it's going to be great."
