Yesterday, we told you about the large construction project at Portage Collegiate, but that's not the only significant work being done at a Portage la Prairie school.

At Ecole Arthur Meighen School, accessibility upgrades are under way.

Portage School Division Superintendent Todd Cuddington says it's a response to an accessibility study last spring.

"This was already one that was in the pipeline," he says, "So, we have two new ramps being installed at the Arthur Meighen School, which will give the public access to the building. Now, the front entrance already has a mechanized door entry, and a ramp, but from the bus drop-off loop, there'll also be a ramp."

Cuddington calls it a significant investment.

"It'll probably be upwards around $250,000 and $300,000, so it's a significant amount of money," he acknowledges, "But when you get into excavation work and new concrete, railing, and accessible doors, it adds up quickly. That will come from funding by the Division. It'll be wrapped up in the coming weeks."
