The Portage la Prairie city council gave first reading to the 2017 financial plan earlier this week.  Councillor Brent Budz says that plan was of course also inclusive of the budget as well as the 10-year capital plan.  Budz notes council was excited to hold first reading, adding this process took a little bit longer than normal but they got the job done.

He says highlights include the continuation of the city's commitment to Saskatchewan Avenue West from a capital spending perspective, the bridge, and the continuation of overlay and infrastructure projects.  Budz adds there's still a massive amount of spending taking place in preparation for the wastewater treatment plant upgrades and some required upgrades for the treated water plant as well.
