Homestead Co-op has announced that it will be offering free grocery deliveries in an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The organization, which operates food stores in Portage la Prairie, Carman, Treherne and La Salle, made the decision in lieu of special hours for elderly customers.

"Currently, we're being told that seniors shouldn't be out and about in the public. What were going to offer instead of extending our store hours, all of our food store locations will be offering a free delivery from now up until Aprtil 12 and then we're going to revisit it at that time, dependant on how (COVID-19) escalates," says Kevin Dales, Homestead Co-op general manager."

Customers interested in signing up for the grocery delivery service can email or phone either of the four locations to do so.

The store phone numbers are as follows:

Portage la Prairie location - 204 856 2135
Carman location - 204 745 2544
Treherne location - 204 723 2208
La Salle location - 204 736 3011

Dales adds that any customers in need of pharmacy information can contact the Carman Co-op Pharmacy at 204-745-3602.
