Later this month, there's a first coming for Portage la Prairie.

The Portage Potato Festival's launching the Dare To Dodge Dodgeball Tournament at Stride Place, as a fundraiser for this year's festival.

Organizer Cindy McDonald tells us they're looking for teams, and it'll be an "I Love The 80s" theme.

"We're encouraging everybody to dress up. There are going to be prizes best team costumes," she says, "It's a fundraiser for the Potato Festival, so we're encouraging everyone to please come out and support. It's only $25.00 a person. You have to be 18 and over. Teams are a minimum of six players, maximum of ten. Two of those players have to be female, two females have to be on the court at all times. It's going to be a really fun time."

McDonald stresses the Potato Festival remains a free event.

"The Potato Festival is Portage's signature event in 2017. It's a free festival, and it costs a lot of money to put on a free festival, so this is a fundraiser for us, to help with the 2017 festival, to make it the best it's ever been. So encourage people to sign up and support the Potato Festival."

They need you to sign up to play by May 15th, with the tournament on the 27th. You can do that by visiting their website.
