KF Aerospace, the company in charge of military flight training in Southport, has weighed in on the potential relocation of the RCAF training.

"The government of Canada has embarked on a Future Aircrew Training Project," says KF Aerospace Site Manager Peter Fedak. "They will be looking at consolidating all of the aircrew training options under one prime contractor. That will involve the training that goes on in Moose Jaw and Southport."

The Future Aircrew Training Project, or FACT, is an initiative by the RCAF that will determine the vision and future status of the Air Force in order to remain efficient and relevant.  Fedak realizes how big the training at Southport is for the community.

"We are involved members of the community," adds Fedak. "We want to keep that going by showing the value of Southport, continuing to provide the excellent services at Southport, just being involved, and making sure we are putting in the best answers possible whenever a contract does come up."

He adds he doesn't feel like Southport and Moose Jaw are competing as both properties offer areas of specialty. Fedak notes the current contract at Southport extends until 2027 so no training would be leaving before then.
