The man responsible for the murder of 96 year-old MacGregor resident Niels "Arne" Nielsen in May of 2014 was sentenced to life imprisonment without a chance for parole for at least ten years. The sentencing took place in Portage la Prairie Court of Queen's Bench when Jason Conway, 25 years-old pled guilty to second-degree murder in the stabbing of Nielsen.

Nielsen was discovered in his kitchen by friends after having been missed in religious meetings.

Conway killed Nielsen to obtain money for alcohol. He and another suspect convinced Nielsen they wanted to use his telephone in order to rob him. Conway had no previous criminal record.

Months after the death, Martin Sutherland, who was 54 at the time, was with Conyway, and also charged with first-degree murder.

Sutherland faces trial this October.
