It's 145, and counting, for the Portage Ex. The latest edition opens on Friday on Portage la Prairie's Island Park.

Fair Board member David Koroscil says there's a heritage theme this year.

"This year we thought it would be good to look back at what people used to use 40, 50, 60, 70 years ago, when it comes to agriculture," he says, "But I guess the big thing is, we want to provide something for all age groups, so we have three different stages set up, and we've tried to have something going on a regular basis at all three of those stages."

Koroscil adds agriculture's at the core of this year's Ex.

"We have our cattle and horse shows throughout the day, all three days," he says, "That also includes 4-H. So, there are activities that are ongoing, and that all ends Saturday afternoon with the 4-H steer sale. And, of course, the other activities --- there's always a petting zoo, and that's very popular."

He reminds you something that started only last year will continue.

"With Select Shows, it's their second in a row that they will be on the pavement, in behind Stride Place, in the parking lot," he says, "They're very excited about that. They're also bringing in three new rides this year. I'm not sure what they are yet, but they'll have a little more variety this year."
