The Portage Regional Recreation Authority has big plans for Canada's 150th birthday. Summer Program Coordinator Jade Barrault says Canada Day will begin with the traditional pancake breakfast put on by the Portage Rotary Club, followed by a performance from "Troupe." Barrault notes the opening ceremony will be held at 11:30 and they'll cut the cake at noon, after which all the musical acts will begin. She says this year the show will feature Troy Garnham, the Portage Vesna Dancers, Antic, and Amy Brown. Barrault adds there will also be performances by Micah Zacharias and "Crooked Archers."

She says the pancake breakfast is five dollars a person but all the other activities are absolutely free. Barrault notes this year they'll be doing an outdoor movie, so at 9:30 p.m. they'll be showing the 2017 version of "Beauty and the Beast." She adds the fireworks display will get started around 11 p.m. and in honour of Canada 150 they'll be going even bigger and better this year. Barrault says it should be an awesome day, so they hope everyone will come out to Island Park, bring their lawn chairs, and enjoy a wonderful celebration of our nation's birthday.
