After two years, the Prairie Pregnancy Support Centre is now open in Portage la Prairie. Located at 60B Tupper St. North right beside Youth For Christ, the long-awaited project finally celebrated their grand opening this week. Executive Director Mary Loewen describes how it feels.

"God has been so faithful in the process and bringing people with wisdom, people who have gone this route before, people who are so willing to give of their time and energy and the expertise that they have. I'm confident that will continue."

She also mentioned the focus of the services offered at the centre.

"We offer the Options Counselling, that's something that we wanted to get really good at," notes Loewen. "That's when girls come in and suspect they're pregnant, what are your options and what lies before you. They have the choice of parenting, we also talk about the option of adoption and then we also talk about abortion, what it is and how it's done and the cost of all of these options to the mom and the child."

Loewen thanks all of the people who have supported the efforts to get the centre up and running. She notes the closest crisis pregnancy centres before were in Brandon, Winnipeg and Winkler, emphasizing Portage's need for the service.
