The RM of Cartier is exploring the possibility of supplying natural gas to St. Eustache.

Reeve Dale Fossay says Council resolved to send a letter to Manitoba Hydro at its meeting this week, asking them to explain what it would take to supply natural gas to the community.

“All indications are over the next number of years Hydro rates will be increasing more than they have in the past,” Fossay says. “With the natural gas line being just a mile or two out of St. Eustache, we will be inquiring with them the feasibility of bringing it into the area.”

Fossay says there are a number of sites in St. Eustache that would be major users — including the community club, hockey rink, school and church. The prospect of having natural gas supplied to the village would allow for another opportunity to heat buildings.

“We're only in the investigation stage,” Fossay stresses. “I'm sure there's a lengthy process they'll go through ... we're just making the initial contact in the near future.”
