The Gate Guardian at Southport has received a new plaque explaining how the Gate Guardian came to be.

The Tutor CT-114 T aircraft was erected as the Gate Guardian for Southport's 25th anniversary in 2017. Peggy May is the CEO of Southport Aerospace Centre Inc and explains that aircraft is significant.

"It was the aircraft that was used for training with Southport when it was a military training base," says May. "It is significant to the people who worked there in the past, work there now, and live in Southport."

The Tutor plane was also used by the Royal Canadian Air Force aerobatic flying team known as the Golden Centenaries and is still flown by the Canadian Snowbirds today.

May notes by having the plaque present at the foot of the gate guardian visitors that come to check it out will be able to understand its significance.
