The Portage Stampede trampled through Stride Place this weekend in Portage la Prairie.

"We really like to showcase the different types of events we can host," says Portage Regional Recreation Authority general manager David Sattler. "It's a multiplex so we really want to show the versatility of the complex."

Hundreds took in the two-day rodeo action with events like calf roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. There was also a lot of activities for kids including the intermission wild pony racing, and mutton busting. 8-year-old Jill Goff from Carman gave it her all at the mutton busting competition to prove to her dad she could.

"My dad said I couldn't do it with a dress on and I wanted to prove that I could," says Goff. "The sheep riding was definitely my favourite part of the rodeo."

Her dad John thought the whole event was great and was happy to see his girl have some fun.

"I really enjoyed everything," says Gladstone resident Allistair Scott. "I've got a few friends and people I know here, and I've met some strangers here as well. I really enjoyed all the talent out here. I hear an advertisement (Friday) morning and decided I had to make it in."

The event wrapped up Saturday with a party in the dirt.
